Reefton to Oamaru via Haast

After 40+ years working in various countries and occupations it’s time to take off and do something fun. I decided to go on a road trip to celebrate my retirement. As I’m waiting for a hip replacement, my options are somewhat limited. The places I stopped are therefore relatively close to the road and/or carparking. I do like to take the backroads sometimes, so places are not always on the main tourist trail.

I did take plenty of time out to read and knit. I would take my book and knitting in the car and find a nice sunny spot and just sit for a while. I got through two books and my jersey is considerably longer now than when I set out.
When I’ve recovered from my hip-replacement, I will definitely be going back and walking some of the many trails that are along the route. If this is your thing, then plan for a few more days.
I spent 6 full days in Oamaru, however, you could have done it in five. I spent another 5 days travelling from A to B as well has spending a couple of days with friends just to catch up.
I was away from home for 11 days and covered a bit over 2,000km.
I do love a road trip!!
There are worse places to have to wait at roadworks.
