Bozeman – Montana

As I lived in Bozeman Montana for eight years, our visit was to spend Christmas with family and friends. However, we did get out and about to visit a few favourite haunts.

Hyalite Canyon
One beautiful sunny and still afternoon my daughter and I decided to go for a drive up Hyalite Canyon. We didn’t know how far up the road we would get as it isn’t always ploughed. We lucked out and we were able to make it all the way up to the dam at Hyalite Reservoir.
This day was one for the books! This was the coldest day in Bozeman, Montana in 2022, when the temperature reached -42ºC (-44°F). Yes, it was cold, but what a stunning day.
Another lovely day for a drive and we had a slow and icy drive up to Bridger Bowl Ski Area.

Bridger Bowl Ski Area

Not all winter days are sunny and bright. There are some grey days as well. A great opportunity to explore Downtown Bozeman, enjoy a cuppa in one of the cafes or to browse in The Country Bookshelf. A great independent bookstore with an excellent selection of titles.
Bozeman sits on the Eastern edge of The Rockies, is home to MSU – Montana State University, The Museum of the Rockies and a doorway to Yellowstone National Park, Bridger Bowl Ski Area and numerous trails and back-country camping. There are a number of Hot Springs in the area, many open to the public, some more rustic than others.
Summers are generally warm and sunny with plenty of opportunities to explore the great outdoors. Winters are cold and long, but sunny winter days are stunning!
Things to See and Do:
- Museum of the Rockies
- Yellowstone National Park
- Bozeman Hot Springs
- Chico Hot Springs
- Norris Hot Springs
Fly Fishing – there are numerous guides and fishing tours available for those that are interested. Fishing is not my thing, so I can’t recommend any one outfit.
